Her lifeless body was discovered in a property on Nevinson Way in Waterlooville on Thursday, December 28, prompting a murder investigation.

Joanna Derkacz, a recruitment agent from Waterlooville, was a beloved figure in both her work and social communities. Her loss has reverberated deeply among her family, friends, and colleagues.
Viola Signejeva, a friend, shared her thoughts: “I am happy to have known Jo not only as a colleague but also as a very good friend. She has always been a source of positivity, energy, and enthusiasm. It’s too early for her. Rest in peace Jo. I miss you and send my deepest condolences to your family and friends.”

The investigation into Joanna Derkacz’s murder is ongoing, with detectives continuing to question a 36-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of her murder. Detectives have been granted an additional 12 hours of custody for the suspect, seeking more time to conduct their investigation. The man was due to appear before Magistrates Court for the extension.
The incident unfolded on Thursday, December 28, when the ambulance service was called to an address around 11:30 am. Police also attended the scene and have remained involved in the investigation. Subsequently, a major crime scene was established at the address, with police officers guarding the property while forensic officers in white coveralls searched for evidence.
Two white BMW cars were recovered from the driveway of the property for further examination, including the search for DNA and evidence related to the incident. These vehicles were later loaded onto a recovery lorry for examination by Scenes of Crime Officers.
The 36-year-old man arrested in connection with Joanna’s murder was treated for injuries to his arms before being taken into custody. The police continue their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death, which is currently treated as suspicious.
District Commander, Chief Inspector Habib Rahman, offered reassurance to the local community, stating, “This is a concerning incident for the local community, but we do not believe there is any risk to the public. Specialist officers will remain at the scene while we establish what happened. The Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out regular patrols in the area, and anyone with questions or concerns can speak to these uniformed officers.”
