Dangerous driving has led to a jail sentence for a man from Gillingha

Ryan Jarvis, 40, from Bedson Walk, was sentenced to one year and two months in jail after appearing before Maidstone Crown Court on Friday 11 May 2018. Jarvis had pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving and using a motor vehicle without a licence or insurance. The court heard how on Thursday 22 March 2018 he had taken a car belonging to his Mum before it was involved in a collision outside a primary school in Woodlands Road, Gillingham. He had collided with a car which then collided with a bus and a minibus. One person received minor injuries. Shortly before the collision he had been seen by officers who knew the car had been reported stolen. Police had approached Jarvis to talk to him however he drove off and was then involved in the collision at around 3pm. As well as being sentenced Jarvis was banned from driving for three years and will have to take an extended test before he is allowed back on the road. Investigating officer PC Rebecca Kemp said: ‘Jarvis drove really irresponsibly and it was only sheer luck that nobody was injured seriously. The collision happened just before young children were due to leave a nearby school and I dread to think what may have happened if this collision had taken place minutes later. ‘I hope this sentencing goes someway to deter others of behaving in the same manner and I hope his driving ban and time in jail allows him time to reflect on his behaviour’.
