On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, a Devon and Cornwall Police detective constable was fired without notice after members of the misconduct panel determined that his actions amounted to gross misconduct.
DC Daniel Arnold was accused of violating professional conduct standards, specifically discreditable conduct.
On September 16, 2021, the officer appeared in Bodmin Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol. He was banned from driving for 20 months and fined.
The incident occurred while he was off duty, and the officer was suspended as a result.
Following the three-day public hearing, the panel concluded that DC Arnold had violated the expected professional standards.
The panel decided that the officer would be fired without cause.
“We expect our officers to uphold the standards of professional behaviour at all times, while on and off duty,” said Detective Superintendent Paul Kessell, Head of Professional Standards.
His actions brought the police service into disrepute and threatened public trust.
Such behaviour will not be tolerated in policing, and the panel decided that the officer should be fired without notice.
