Driver Jailed for Deadly Overtake That Killed Seven-Year-Old Elsie

A 39-year-old Lincolnshire man has been handed a six-year prison sentence after a reckless overtake caused the death of a seven-year-old girl.

Deadly Crash on B1202 Metheringham Heath Lane

Veselin Dudenski, from Cherry Avenue, Branston, was driving a Citroen Relay van on the B1202 Metheringham Heath Lane near Metheringham on Friday, 3 January 2025, around 5.45pm. He attempted a dangerous overtake, ignoring a warning sign about a hidden dip ahead.

Dudenski, travelling from Metheringham towards Boothby Grafoe, had just overtaken a Ford Ranger when he tried to overtake a second vehicle on a stretch of road with national speed limits and limited visibility.

Head-On Collision Kills Child Passenger

As Dudenski crossed the crest of the hill on the wrong side, his van collided head-on with a Kia Rio coming the other way. The Kia’s driver suffered serious injuries. Tragically, Elsie Gascoigne, seated in the rear, was critically injured and died in hospital the following morning.

Justice Served at Lincoln Crown Court

Dudenski pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Today at Lincoln Crown Court, he was sentenced to six years behind bars.

He also received an eight-year driving ban and must pass an extended driving test before ever getting behind the wheel again.
