Hilkiah McLeggan, 77, has been identified as the victim of a brutal knife attack that took place at East Street Market in Walworth, Southwark, leaving him dead and two other men seriously injured. The tragic incident occurred in front of shoppers on Sunday morning.
Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, the Southwark policing lead, described the incident as “horrific” and extended thanks to the “brave members of the public who assisted police at the scene.” Scotland Yard confirmed that the attack is not believed to be terror-related and urged the public not to speculate on social media regarding a potential motive.

The historic East Street Market, operating since the 16th century, was the scene of the attack. Mr McLeggan’s family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.

Authorities have increased the police presence in the Walworth area to reassure the community and local businesses. Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact police at 101, referencing case number 2690/10Nov.
