A former Metropolitan Police officer, David Campbell, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, November 1, facing charges of rape and misconduct in public office. Campbell, previously a police constable within the Frontline Policing command, is accused of an alleged rape involving a victim aged 16 or 17, which reportedly occurred in 2011 in north London. The incident was brought to police attention in December 2022.
Campbell, who was off duty at the time of the alleged offence, was arrested in February 2023 and was immediately suspended from duty. Following his suspension, Campbell has since left the Metropolitan Police Service.
Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Stancombe from the Met’s Professionalism Command commented, “I know the concern these very serious charges will raise. Officers from our dedicated Domestic Abuse and Sexual Offending (DASO) team have worked diligently to bring this matter to court at the earliest opportunity. It would be inappropriate for us to discuss the charges in further detail at this time as we must allow the judicial process to take place without prejudice.”
Further details surrounding Campbell’s departure from the Met will not be disclosed at this time to avoid any potential prejudice to the criminal proceedings.
