Ex-Met Police Officer David Campbell to Face Court Over Rape Charges
Serious Allegations Shake the Met
David Campbell, a former Metropolitan Police officer, is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, November 1. He faces shocking charges of rape and misconduct in public office. Campbell once served as a police constable in the Frontline Policing command but stands accused of allegedly raping a 16 or 17-year-old in north London back in 2011.
Case Brought to Light in 2022, Arrest in 2023
The disturbing claim only came to police attention in December 2022. Campbell, who was off duty during the alleged incident, was arrested in February 2023 and immediately suspended. Since then, he has left the Metropolitan Police Service.
Met Police Vow Justice Without Prejudice
Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Stancombe of the Met’s Professionalism Command said, “I know the concern these very serious charges will raise. Officers from our dedicated Domestic Abuse and Sexual Offending (DASO) team have worked diligently to bring this matter to court at the earliest opportunity. It would be inappropriate for us to discuss the charges in further detail at this time as we must allow the judicial process to take place without prejudice.”
Details about Campbell’s exit from the Met remain under wraps, protecting the integrity of the ongoing criminal proceedings.
