Just before midnight on June 25, 2025, police were called to Heol y Gaer, Caerau, Cardiff, after reports of an unconscious man with serious head injuries. What first looked like a hit-and-run quickly turned into a chilling case of intentional violence.
Victim Left With Life-Threatening Injuries
The victim suffered a fractured skull, a damaged spleen, a broken hand, and multiple cuts and bruises. Two local brothers, Carl Newman, 39, and Christopher Newman, 44, were arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Brothers Sentenced to Over Six Years Behind Bars
On March 6, the Newman brothers pleaded guilty and were handed prison sentences of six years and four months at Cardiff Crown Court.
Detective Sergeant Rachel Walsh from South Wales Police said: “The outcome at court is the result of determined detective work which we hope reassures the victim and builds trust and confidence in the police within the wider community.”
