Ex-footballer Joey Barton, 43, has slammed a grievous bodily harm charge after an alleged savage attack at a golf club. The former player appeared via video link from prison at Liverpool Crown Court to plead not guilty.
Victim Fights for Sight After Alleged Attack
Barton is accused of assaulting Kevin Lynch, 51, at Huyton and Prescot Golf Club on 8 March. Prosecutors reveal Lynch suffered serious facial injuries and risks losing sight in one eye. Barton has been behind bars since 10 March after being denied bail.
Co-Defendant Stays Silent
Gary O’Grady, 50, also charged and currently on bail, appeared in court but did not enter a plea.
Drama at the Golf Course
The court heard both men had been drinking before a “heated discussion” turned violent. A witness claims to have seen a man being punched, kicked, and stamped on outside the club. Police carried out forensic searches at the scene following the incident.
