Liverpool Man Slapped with Three-Year Football Ban for Hate-Fuelled Rants
A Liverpool man has been slammed with a tough punishment after unleashing a torrent of racist, homophobic, and transphobic abuse online. Francis Fleming, 44, now faces a three-year football banning order following his conviction over a series of vile social media posts.
Convicted for Multiple Hate-Fuelled Offences
Fleming appeared at Sefton Magistrate’s Court on 19 March and pleaded guilty to ten charges under Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003. His offensive messages, mainly tied to football, ran from 2023 through 2024. Everton FC flagged his disgusting behaviour after spotting the vile comments online.
Police Crackdown Sends Clear Warning to Online Haters
Besides community service and fines, Fleming must steer clear of all football matches for three years. Detective Constable Tom Sharrocks blasted Fleming’s conduct and warned others:
“I hope this result shows that people can’t hide behind their social media accounts and post racist, homophobic and transphobic comments online. This will never be accepted.”
“It’s pleasing that Fleming is now subjected to a three-year football banning order for his appalling behaviour. Merseyside Police will keep working with local clubs and the Kick It Out campaign to crack down on hate crimes, whether inside the stadium or online.”
“I hope this sends a clear message and acts as a deterrent. We will prosecute anyone who behaves in such a deplorable way.”
This verdict underlines a toughening stance on online abuse linked to sport, proving hate speech will not be tolerated — on any pitch or platform.
