Killer of Woolwich Woman, 43, May Have Fled Abroad, Say Police

Detectives investigating the murder of a senior banking executive in Woolwich, southeast London, believe the suspect may have fled abroad. Marianne Kilonzi, 43, a vice president at financial giant Citibank, was found beaten to death in her flat on Friday, January 17.

Investigation Underway

The Metropolitan Police suspect that Ms. Kilonzi’s attacker was someone she knew and are actively pursuing leads, including the possibility that the individual has left the country. Detective Chief Inspector Suzanne Soren of Specialist Crime South, who is leading the investigation, said the inquiry is moving at a “fast pace.”

She stated:
“This is a tragic crime, and our thoughts at this incredibly difficult time are with Marianne’s loved ones and colleagues. We are working tirelessly to trace a named individual in connection with this case.”

Details of the Incident

Police were called to Ms. Kilonzi’s Woolwich flat on January 17 after concerns were raised for her welfare. A post-mortem examination revealed that she had died from blunt force trauma and a head injury. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the suspect as inquiries continue.

Community Reassurance

DCI Soren sought to reassure the public, saying:
“While we are in the early stages of this investigation, we believe the suspect was known to Marianne, and there is no wider risk to the public.”

Tributes from Citibank

A Citibank spokesperson expressed sorrow over Ms. Kilonzi’s death, saying:
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. Our thoughts are with Marianne’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
