Lewisham Murder Charge: Suspect to Appear in Court Today

A man charged with the murder of an 87-year-old in Lewisham is due to appear before magistrates today.

Court Appearance

Vasile Iosebica, 47, of Wellmeadow Road, Lewisham, has been charged with murder following the death of the pensioner in the early hours of Sunday, 24 August.

He is set to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 26 August.

Case Background

Police and the London Ambulance Service were called to Wellmeadow Road shortly after 1am on Sunday, where the victim was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem later confirmed the cause of death as compression of the neck.

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation. Police confirmed that the victim and Iosebica were known to each other.

Next Steps

At today’s short hearing, magistrates are expected to confirm Iosebica’s identity and address, before sending the case to the Old Bailey, where serious criminal cases are tried.

He is likely to be remanded in custody pending a future hearing.
