Man Charged with Murder of 87-Year-Old in Lewisham
A 47-year-old man has been charged with the murder of an elderly pensioner in Lewisham. The victim, aged 87, died in the early hours of Sunday, 24 August.
Court Appearance Set for Tuesday
Vasile Iosebica, of Wellmeadow Road, Lewisham, faces murder charges. He is due to appear at bromley/">Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 26 August.
How the Tragic Death Unfolded
Police and the 1 were called to Wellmeadow Road shortly after 1am on Sunday. Despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem revealed the cause of death as compression of the neck.
The victim and Iosebica were known to each other, say detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, who are leading the investigation.
Next Steps in the Case
At today’s hearing, magistrates are expected to confirm Iosebica’s identity and address before sending the case to the Old Bailey for trial.
He is likely to be remanded in custody awaiting further proceedings.
