Man Charged After Officers Threatened With Axe in Gillingham

A man has been charged following an incident in which two police officers were allegedly threatened with an axe during an early morning callout in Gillingham.

The incident occurred at 2:36 am on Tuesday, 10 December 2024, when patrols responded to reports of a vehicle’s window being damaged on Chaucer Road.
Mark Cork, 44, of East Street, Chatham, has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker, possessing an axe in a public place, and two counts of threatening a person with a bladed article.

He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 11 December.

Police have confirmed that no officers sustained serious injuries during the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
