Man Charged with Animal Cruelty After 37 Dog Remains Found in Billericay Raid

Essex police uncover a horrific case of alleged animal abuse and fraud in Crays Hill property

 

A man has been charged with animal cruelty following a shocking discovery of 37 dead dogs at a property in Crays Hill, Billericay, Essex.

The 25-year-old suspect, named as Ovaeed Rahman, was arrested after a raid conducted by Essex Police, the RSPCA, and Basildon Council on Tuesday, 13 May.

20 Surviving Dogs Rescued

Alongside the remains of the dogs, officers also found around 20 live dogs at the property. These animals are currently being cared for, and efforts are ongoing to trace their last-known owners, according to Essex Police.

Charges and Court Appearance

Rahman, of Hope Road, Billericay, has been charged with:

  • Causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal
  • Three counts of fraud by false representation
  • An offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2006

He is due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday, 15 May 2025).

A second man, also arrested at the scene on suspicion of fraud and animal cruelty, has been conditionally bailed until July.
