Man Charged with Distributing Terrorist Material and Supporting ISIS

A 29-year-old man has been charged with distributing terrorist materials and expressing support for ISIS after an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command.

Abdullah Bellil, from Southampton, was arrested at his home on Wednesday, December 18, and subsequently taken into custody.

He has been charged with:

  • Three counts of distributing the contents of a terrorist publication via a social media account, contrary to Section 2(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2006.
  • One count of expressing an opinion or belief on social media supportive of ISIS, a proscribed terrorist organisation, contrary to Section 12(1A) of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The charges cover activities that allegedly took place between July 2023 and October 2024.

Bellil is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, December 20.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police reiterated the importance of public vigilance in reporting any suspected terrorist activity and assured that the Counter Terrorism Command remains steadfast in its efforts to combat extremism.
