A man has been charged nearly two years after 13-year-old Alfie Brown was killed in a collision while cycling home in Swafield, near North Walsham, Norfolk.

James Durham, 54, of Goodwin Road, Mundesley, has been formally charged with causing death by dangerous driving following the tragic incident on August 10, 2023.

Alfie had been riding his bicycle when he was struck by a white Ford Ranger. He died at the scene from his injuries.

Arrest Made After Long-Running Investigation

Norfolk Police confirmed that Durham will appear before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on August 1, 2025.

A man in his 50s had previously been arrested on the day of the incident on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop, but was later released under investigation.

Family Tribute: “He Had His Whole Life Ahead of Him”

Alfie’s aunt, Emma Brown, paid tribute to her “adventurous, intelligent, beautiful” nephew, describing him as the victim of a hit-and-run who was cycling home from a friend’s house.

“Life will never be the same without him. He will always be in our hearts,” she said.

A GoFundMe page launched by the family to support funeral costs raised over £15,000 and saw hundreds of messages of support from across the UK.

Court Proceedings Await

James Durham is expected to face a hearing in August as the case progresses. Police have thanked the public for their patience and support during the lengthy investigation.
