Man escapes jail sentence following serious hit and run in Basingstoke

A 58 year old man who failed to stop after colliding with a cyclist who sustained serious fractures, has been disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to complete 180 hours of community work. Abbas John, of Maidenhead Road, Windsor, pleaded guilty to careless driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and failing to report a collision. He appeared before Basingstoke Magistrates Court last week. The collision occurred in Jays Close, Basingstoke, on January 14. The 52-year-old female victim, from Basingstoke, sustained a fractured skull and fractures to her ankle. John was also ordered to pay a fine of £710 with £85 costs
