A 32-year-old man has been sentenced for the manslaughter of his stepfather after a fatal stabbing in Hayes, west London. The court heard the attack was carried out while the defendant was suffering from significant mental health issues.
Adejuwon Olufemi Alexander Jnr Oyekan, of Melina Close, Hayes, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 10 April to a hospital order under the Mental Health Act. He will remain detained in a secure psychiatric facility until he is deemed fit for release.

Oyekan had previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility on Monday, 24 February 2025.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 11 July 2023, when police were called to a residence in Hayes to reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers found Oyekan still armed with the knife used to attack his 54-year-old stepfather, Jason Thompson.
Initial attempts by police to disarm him using tasers were unsuccessful, and officers were forced to withdraw from the property and await support from armed colleagues. Once Oyekan was safely detained, officers immediately turned their attention to Jason, but despite their efforts and those of paramedics, he sadly died at the scene from his injuries.
“A Beautiful, Attentive and Caring Legacy”
Jason’s sister, Barbara Thompson, paid tribute to her brother in an emotional statement:
“Jason and I had a special bond. We were both cheerleaders for one another… There is not a day that goes past without tears and my heart aching. I still struggle with the reality that he’s not here… Jason leaves behind a beautiful, attentive and caring legacy.”
Police Praise Bravery of First Responders
Detective Chief Inspector Laura Semple, from the Met’s Public Protection Partnership, offered her condolences to Jason’s family and commended the bravery of the officers who attended the scene.
“The first responding officers demonstrated huge bravery to challenge Oyekan, who was armed and acting aggressively. Their quick thinking ensured he was safely taken into custody and did not pose a wider threat to the public.”
Oyekan was arrested at the scene and initially charged with murder on 11 July 2023. Following psychiatric evaluation and legal proceedings, his charge was reduced to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility.
He will remain detained in a secure hospital facility under medical supervision until mental health professionals and the courts deem it safe for him to be released.
