Man Sentenced to Eight Years for Sexual Abuse Offences in Ayrshire

John Sturgeon, a 41-year-old man, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of a series of sexual abuse offences in the Ayrshire area. The crimes, which included rape and domestic abuse, were committed over three years against two women.

Sturgeon’s conviction followed a trial at the High Court in Glasgow, where he was found guilty on ten charges. Detective Constable John Shaw of the Ayrshire Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit described Sturgeon as an “abusive individual” who displayed no remorse for his violent and abusive behaviour towards the victims.

The investigation was significantly aided by the courage of the two women who came forward. Their information played a crucial role in building the case against Sturgeon. Detective Constable Shaw commended their strength and hoped that the sentencing would provide them with some sense of closure.

Detective Constable Shaw also urged anyone experiencing or having experienced violence or sexual abuse to report it promptly. The Ayrshire police have dedicated detectives who investigate such offences, and victims can expect full support from officers and partner agencies during the process
