A serial abuser and convicted rapist has been jailed for life after a court heard the harrowing testimony of his victims, including one who described living in “fear, helplessness, and shame” at the hands of a man she called a “psychopath”.

Musaddaq Hoque, 37, formerly of St Luke’s Road, Notting Hill, was handed a rare life sentence at Snaresbrook Crown Court after being found guilty of five counts of rape against two women, as well as GBH, threats to kill, and coercive control.
“You are a psychopath… a Jekyll and Hyde who can change your personality with the flick of a switch.”

The second victim described being financially manipulated, physically attacked, and sexually violated. She was left traumatised, suffering flashbacks and panic attacks.

Judge Condemns “Manipulative and Dangerous” Offender

Sentencing Hoque, Judge Ross Cohen said:

“This was not isolated offending. You manipulated vulnerable women, including one who was divorced and grieving. You exploited her culture and took advantage of her dowry savings.”

The judge was visibly emotional during the hearing and ruled that Hoque poses a “serious and ongoing danger to women”. He must serve a minimum of 14 years and eight months before being considered for parole and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

History of Violence and Abuse

This is not Hoque’s first conviction for abuse. In 2023, he was sentenced to 10 years for a previous campaign of 15 years of violence and terror, which included burning a woman with a cigarette and threatening her with acid.

In the most recent trial, two additional women came forward to detail the pattern of rape, assault, and coercive control they endured.

Hoque’s criminal past includes:

  • Drug dealing in 2011
  • Deliberately running over a cyclist in 2014
  • Multiple domestic violence offences, including a 2018 assault
  • Harassment and threats, including stalking behaviour and abuse of former partners

Judge’s Rare Decision Reflects Severity

Life sentences in rape trials are uncommon, but Judge Cohen said the totality of Hoque’s crimes made it necessary.

“The risk you pose is high, and the harm you cause is life-altering. The women you hurt will carry your abuse with them forever.”
