A man has been sentenced to 24 weeks in prison after being convicted of assaulting a police officer and committing two other assaults earlier this year, including spitting at a person and flicking a lit cigarette into a child’s face.
“The actions of Stefan Modiga were appalling, particularly his assault on one of our officers who was simply trying to protect the public. Spitting at someone, especially in the eye and mouth, is a disgusting act that puts individuals at risk of serious health complications. The fact that he targeted a young child in one of his previous offences further highlights the severity of his behaviour.”

They added: “We hope this sentencing sends a strong message that such behaviour will not be tolerated, and we will continue to work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.
The assaults, particularly the incident involving the young child, have sparked outrage in the local community. Residents have praised the swift action of Newham Police in apprehending Modiga and ensuring that justice was served.
The sentence serves as a reminder of the serious consequences for those who commit violence or harm against emergency workers and members of the public.
