Shoplifter Banned and Jailed After £940 Sussex Spree

A serial shoplifter has finally been nailed after a month-long crime spree across Sussex. Lee Cummings, 23, swiped more than £940 worth of goods before cops caught him red-handed.

16 Thefts in Just Weeks

Cummings, from Worthing, pled guilty to 16 counts of theft at Brighton Magistrates’ Court last Friday. His November spree included pinching bottles of wine, beer, spirits, meat joints, Yankee candles, Lego sets, and even laundry products.

Jail Time and a Sweeping Retail Ban

The court slammed Cummings with 20 weeks behind bars. On top of that, he’s been slapped with a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). It forbids him from entering any Co-Op, B&M, or Marks & Spencer stores in Sussex. Plus, he faces a £184 surcharge.

Police Crackdown on Shoplifting

“Repeat offenders hit local businesses hard,” said Inspector Sharon Sawyer. “We urge all shops to report every theft, no matter how small, so we can act quickly.”

This tough sentencing is part of Sussex Police’s bigger drive to stamp out retail crime and protect local shops from persistent thieves.
