Suspect in Court Following Violent Disturbance in Gravesend

A man has appeared in court following a violent disturbance at a residential property in Gravesend over the weekend.

Kent Police were called to the scene at around 1am on Saturday, 19 April, after reports of damage being caused at a property in the town centre. Officers, including armed patrol units, attended and discovered damage to both a van parked outside and to the interior of the residence.

During the incident, a police vehicle was also damaged. A search of the premises led to the recovery of a blank-firing handgun and blank ammunition.

Arrest and Charges

Shane Banks, aged 34, of East Terrace, Gravesend, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. He was later charged with:

  • Three counts of criminal damage

  • Possession of an imitation firearm in connection with an offence under the Firearms Act

Banks appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 21 April, where he was remanded in custody. He is next due to appear at Woolwich Crown Court on Monday, 19 May.

A spokesperson for Kent Police confirmed that no injuries were reported during the disturbance and that the investigation remains ongoing.
