Two Charged with Historic Child Sexual Offences in Calderdale

Two individuals are set to appear in court tomorrow, January 21, charged with multiple child sexual offences linked to Skircoat Lodge Children’s Home in Halifax. The offences are alleged to have occurred between 1970 and 1995.

The charges follow an extensive investigation launched in 2018 into historic abuse at the home.

Defendants and Charges

  • Malcolm Phillips, 91, of Tyseley, Birmingham, faces 32 charges involving seven victims, both male and female, from 1976 to 1994.
    • The charges include rape, indecent assault, gross indecency, and aiding and abetting unknown males to commit indecent assault.
    • He also faces additional charges of aiding and abetting a man to commit sexual offences.
  • Linda Brunning, 65, of Sowerby Bridge, is charged with 15 offences involving three victims, male and female, between 1980 and 1994.
    • These include indecent assault and aiding and abetting in the commission of sexual offences.

Both individuals are scheduled to appear at Bradford Magistrates’ Court on January 21.

The investigation into abuse at Skircoat Lodge has been ongoing since 2018, uncovering allegations spanning over two decades. Police have emphasized the complexity of the case and the commitment to pursuing justice for victims of historical abuse.
