In a shocking case that has left the community outraged, two women have been found guilty of torturing and killing an African grey parrot while under the influence of alcohol. Nicola Bradley, 35, and Tracy Dixon, 47, both residents of Carlisle, were convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to the defenceless creature.

The appalling incident occurred on July 30 last year when the women, inebriated after a night out, were given a lift by the bird’s owner, Paul Crooks, to his residence. While Mr Crooks was momentarily away, Bradley and Dixon subjected the African grey parrot, affectionately named Sparky, to a horrendous ordeal.
