Vehicle seized after cash machine damaged in Ashford store

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate who are investigating after money was stolen from a cash machine at a supermarket in Ashford have recovered a vehicle as part of their enquiries. The stolen cash was reported just after 4am on Thursday 7 February 2019 at the Co-op in Faversham Road, Kennington. The cash machine was removed from the building, causing damage to the shop front as a result. A quantity of cash was subsequently stolen from the machine. At 11.30pm on Thursday 7 February 2019 officers recovered a black Volkswagon Passat in Cryol Road, assisted by the Ministry of Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team. Residents in the surrounding area were advised to leave their properties as a precaution. Those affected are now able to return to their homes. Detectives continue to pursue a number of lines of enquiry and seek witnesses to the cash theft.
