Witnesses Sought After Police Officer Injured in Collision in Ashford

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision involving a police officer and a car that allegedly fled the scene in Ashford. The incident occurred on Friday, January 26, 2024, at approximately 3:16 pm on Coulter Road, near the junction with Hedgers Way.

At the time of the collision, the officer was on foot conducting speed checks. Regrettably, the officer sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, where he remains under observation.

The vehicle involved in the incident has been described as a silver Vauxhall Vectra. Subsequently, a car matching this description was located in Hornash Lane, Shadoxhurst, later on the same day. Investigators believe that it may have travelled along Tally Ho Road shortly after the collision.

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate have taken a 19-year-old local man into custody in connection with the incident. However, he has been released on bail pending further investigations.

Authorities are now urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who observed a silver Vauxhall Vectra in the vicinity at the time of the incident to come forward with any information. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the authorities at 01843 222289, quoting reference number 46/14411/24. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555111 or through their online reporting form on their official website.

The investigation remains ongoing, and any details or leads from witnesses will be invaluable in determining the circumstances surrounding the collision.
