A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a shocking spree of house fires in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. The flames engulfed three homes early this morning, sending two teenagers and a woman rushing to hospital.

Three Fire-Related Injuries Reported

Leicestershire Police confirmed the fires are believed to be linked and deliberately set. Emergency crews rushed to the scenes at around 7am, responding with five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform.

Two teenagers and a woman were hospitalised. One teen suffered burn injuries, while all three are being treated for smoke inhalation. Thankfully, their conditions are not life-threatening or life-changing, police said.

Fire Services Battle Flames on Three Streets

  • Holywell Avenue fire reported at 7:05am, with heavy equipment deployed.
  • Another blaze tackled on Prestop Drive shortly after, now extinguished.
  • Third fire triggered emergency response on Cliffton Drive at 7:19am.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incidents are ongoing, urging motorists to avoid Smisby Road (B6006) due to road closures and smoke billowing into the sky seen from miles away.

“Our investigation remains at an early stage as we continue to piece together the circumstances behind these three incidents,”
Three patients were transported to Queen’s Medical Centre for treatment. All who self-rescued have been accounted for, said fire officials.
