A 50-year-old man has been arrested after a terrifying arson spree set three homes ablaze in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. Early this morning, flames ripped through the neighbourhood, sending two teenagers and a woman to hospital.

Three Injured in Devastating House Fires

Leicestershire Police say the fires are linked and deliberately started. Around 7am, emergency crews scrambled to the scenes with five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform.

Two teenagers and a woman were rushed to hospital. One teen suffered burns, while all three were treated for smoke inhalation. Thankfully, police confirm their injuries are not life-threatening.

  • Shortly after: Blaze tackled on Prestop Drive and extinguished.
  • 7:19am: Third fire erupts on Cliffton Drive, triggering urgent response.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service warns drivers to avoid Smisby Road (B6006) due to road closures and huge smoke clouds visible for miles.

Police Hunt Arson Suspect

“Our investigation remains at an early stage as we continue to piece together the circumstances behind these three incidents,” said Detective Inspector Jim Willoughby.

“From what we know so far, we believe these fires to be linked and deliberately caused by the same person.”

Officers have preserved the scenes and are working closely with fire crews. Detectives urge anyone with information to come forward immediately.

Emergency Services Mobilised

The East Midlands Ambulance Service received the first call at 7:05am from Holywell Avenue. They dispatched a paramedic in an ambulance car, three ambulances, and an air ambulance responder.

All three injured were taken to Queen’s Medical Centre for treatment. Fire officials confirm everyone who self-evacuated has been counted.
