Arrest Made Following Reports of Sexual Assaults in Tameside – UKNIP

In a series of disturbing incidents, officers from the Greater Manchester Police have announced the arrest of a man in connection with several sexual assaults in the Tameside area. The reports received by the police spanned a period of three days, starting from Friday, July 8, 2023, and concluding on Monday, July 10, 2023.

Eight incidents were reported, beginning with an assault on a tram heading towards Ashton under Lyne on July 8. Another incident occurred in a pub in Manchester on July 10. Additionally, there were three further separate incidents on public transport between Manchester and Ashton under Lyne on the same day. Reports also involved an incident on a road in Droylsden, and two incidents on a footpath in the Ashton area.

Detectives assigned to investigate these incidents strongly believe that they are linked, given the similarities in the respective reports.

Police have arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of sexual assault. He is currently in custody, where he will be questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.

Detective Sergeant Zoe Bannister, from the Tameside district of the Greater Manchester Police, expressed her concern regarding the incidents. She assured the public that the police are treating these cases very seriously and with a zero-tolerance approach towards sexual assault. The investigation is progressing swiftly to uncover the full circumstances surrounding these incidents.

Sgt. Bannister also emphasised the support being provided to the victims. Their well-being is the primary concern, and anyone with concerns or information is encouraged to contact their local neighbourhood officers. GMP is dedicated to maintaining community safety, and the police are eager to assist and address any queries or apprehensions individuals may have.

Sgt. Bannister stated, “This arrest demonstrates our determination to act swiftly and in a decisive manner in response to such incidents. We will never be complacent, and our commitment to keeping the public safe remains unwavering.”

Police have urged anyone who may possess relevant information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. They can do so by contacting the police on 101 or by providing information on the Greater Manchester Police website, http:///www.gmp.police.uk.
