A senior police official told UK News in Pictures:

“It appears that she was carrying an explosive device and planned to plant it at a bank’s ATM. Something went wrong and the bomb exploded in her hands.”

The explosion has left the local community shaken, though fortunately no other injuries have been reported.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, focusing on whether the woman was acting alone or part of a larger organized group.
The Greek counter-terrorism unit has reportedly been called in to support the inquiry due to the possible political motivations behind the attack.

Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, has previously seen sporadic acts of violence linked to radical groups.
