Woman Dies After Bomb Explodes in Her Hands in Thessaloniki, Greece

A woman has died after a bomb she was allegedly carrying exploded in her hands in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, early this morning.

The 38-year-old woman, believed to have been attempting to plant the device near a bank’s ATM, was known to authorities for her involvement in previous robberies. Police are investigating her possible links to extreme leftist groups.

Explosion Causes Damage Across Thessaloniki

The blast, which took place before dawn, caused significant damage to several storefronts and vehicles. Photos from the scene show crime scene investigators in white suits examining shattered windows and a wall severely damaged by the explosion.

A senior police official told UK News in Pictures:

“It appears that she was carrying an explosive device and planned to plant it at a bank’s ATM. Something went wrong and the bomb exploded in her hands.”

The explosion has left the local community shaken, though fortunately no other injuries have been reported.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, focusing on whether the woman was acting alone or part of a larger organized group.
The Greek counter-terrorism unit has reportedly been called in to support the inquiry due to the possible political motivations behind the attack.

Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, has previously seen sporadic acts of violence linked to radical groups.
