Explosion Rocks St Helier: Dozens Missing, Streets Locked Down
Chaos on Pier Road
An explosion shook St Helier just before 4am on Saturday, December 10, rattling windows and sending a giant plume of smoke into the sky over Mount Bingham. Jersey Police swiftly cordoned off a massive area including Pier Road, its car park, and South Hill.
“We are currently dealing with an incident on Pier Road, St Helier,” police confirmed in a 4:30am statement. They urged locals to avoid the area as emergency crews respond.
Missing and Injured
The blast left about a dozen people missing, with two “walking wounded” being treated at hospital. Chief of Police Robin Smith warned the search and rescue could drag on for days.
Evacuations and Damage
Debris littered Commercial Buildings and nearby St Helier Harbour. Witnesses say the explosion shattered windows in nearby homes. Some residents were evacuated and taken to the Town Hall for safety.
