Cloned Car Chase in Erdington Leads to Arrest and Charges for Multiple Burglaries

A man has been arrested and charged with multiple offences after a dramatic police chase in Erdington involving a cloned vehicle stolen during a burglary.

Officers from West Midlands Police’s Road Crime Team spotted the cloned car in the area and deployed a pre-emptive stinger device to safely bring the vehicle to a stop. The driver attempted to flee the scene on foot but was swiftly detained and arrested by pursuing officers.

A knife was recovered during the arrest, and the suspect has now been charged with several burglary-related offences, along with further charges linked to the stolen vehicle and weapon possession.

Swift Action and Arrest

In a statement posted on social media, the Road Crime Team said:

“Officers saw this cloned car in Erdington after it had been stolen in a burglary. It was pre-emptively stung and then pursued before the driver decamped. He was quickly arrested where we also found his knife, and he’s now been charged with multiple burglaries and offences.”

Public Safety and Police Crackdown

The incident highlights the ongoing efforts by West Midlands Police to tackle vehicle crime and burglary across the region. Cloned vehicles – where criminals use fake or stolen registration plates to avoid detection – are often used in the commission of further crimes.

The successful operation was part of a wider crackdown on organised criminal activity and repeat offenders in Birmingham and surrounding areas.

Community Reassurance

Police have reassured residents that proactive patrols and intelligence-led investigations will continue to keep communities safe. Officers are urging members of the public to report any suspicious behaviour or vehicles to 101 or via the Live Chat service on the West Midlands Police website.

The arrested suspect remains in custody and is expected to appear in court in the coming days.
