A 10-acre field blaze was successfully tackled by Essex County Fire & Rescue Service after a combine harvester fire spread to crops in Danbury, near Chelmsford. The incident occurred on Monday night, and eight fire units were called to the scene at 9.20pm
The fire rapidly extended to the neighbouring crops, posing a significant threat. However, the dedicated efforts of the firefighting teams contained the blaze by 11pm, preventing further damage. Fire crews remained on Ludgores Lane throughout the night to ensure the area was fully secure.
According to the fire service, the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental. Craig McLellan, the fire service group manager, expressed his appreciation for the swift actions of the crews in surrounding the fire and preventing its spread. He also extended gratitude to the farmer for their assistance during the operation.
The fire affected approximately 10 acres of crops, requiring intensive efforts to extinguish. Due to the rural location, the fire crews established a water relay system to effectively combat the fire, particularly in relation to the combine harvester.
