Gardaí from the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) South Division have seized dozens of electric motorbikes and frozen a large bank account following a major day of action targeting organised criminal activity.

The operation, which took place on Tuesday, 22 April 2025, focused on addresses in Dublin 10 and Dublin 24. It forms part of Operation Meacan, an initiative aimed at tackling the use of electric motorbikes for criminal purposes, including drug dealing, money laundering, transporting firearms, drug-related intimidation, and other serious offences.
A Garda spokesperson said:
“Electric motorbikes are increasingly being used by criminals to evade detection while carrying out illegal activities. Operation Meacan is focused on dismantling this mode of transport for criminal networks and disrupting their operations.”

Investigations remain ongoing, and Gardaí have indicated that further enforcement actions are expected in the coming weeks.

Members of the public with information about the criminal use of electric bikes are encouraged to contact Gardaí or use the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
