House Subsides and Sink Holes open up on a Berkshire Road

Thames Water say engineers are looking into it after Caversham house damaged by Sink holes. Cracks appeared in a house and parts of the property have subsided and the driveway has also sunk when a hole was opened up in the road following a water pipe burst. Investigations into the burst water pipe which caused the sinkhole are underway. Eight firefighters were called to the incident on Kidmore Road on Sunday afternoon. Sandcroft Road is currently closed at the junction with Kidmore Road. Justin Coffey Thames Water engineer said We are investigating the cause of the hole “as a matter of priority”. We’re investigating why our cast iron water pipe burst and what has caused the damage to the surrounding area. We have informed the council this morning and structural engineers will be appointed to look at the property in Kidmore Road. We need to understand exactly what has happened as a matter of priority, and will work with all the right people to put this right.” Neighbours said a similar incident happened on the same road about 20 years ago. The driveway of the house had “sunk about 2ft” and a number of cracks could be seen across the house. An Second part of the road has also sunk. A structural engineer is set to visit and inspect the property the owner this afternoon didn’t want to talk about the matter saying it was a private thing.
