Kitchen Fire in Whitstable Leaves One Injured After Hob Left On

Emergency services were called to a kitchen fire in Whitstable on Wednesday evening after a blaze broke out at a residential property on Herne Bay Road.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) received reports of a house fire at 5:55pm. Two fire engines were dispatched to the scene, where crews arrived to find flames in the kitchen area of the home.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used high-pressure hose reel jets to tackle the fire and a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke from the building.

One person at the property suffered from smoke inhalation and was handed over to South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) paramedics for medical attention.

The fire is believed to have been started accidentally, after a hob was left on.

Fire crews successfully brought the situation under control by 6:41pm.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said:

“We’d like to remind residents to always take extra care in the kitchen. Keep cooking areas clean and free of flammable items, and never leave hobs or other cooking appliances unattended while in use.”

This incident highlights the ongoing risk of accidental fires in the home, with kitchens remaining one of the most common places for such outbreaks.
