Police have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder following a road traffic collision on Shaftesbury Avenue, London, in the early hours of Christmas Day.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy provided an update on the investigation, saying:
Officers responded quickly to this report, working closely with City of London Police to arrest a man within minutes.
Detectives are quickly progressing enquiries as part of this investigation. It’s believed that the suspect was involved in an altercation at a nightclub prior to getting in his car and mounting the pavement.

Several scenes remain in place at the location today.
This has been confirmed as an isolated incident which is not terrorism-related.”
Emergency services worked swiftly to treat the injured pedestrians and secure the area. The road remains cordoned off as officers continue their forensic examination and gather evidence.

Police are urging anyone with information, including dashcam or mobile footage, to come forward. Members of the public can contact police on 101 or via @MetCC quoting reference CAD 233 of 25 December.

The Metropolitan Police have assured the public that their investigation is progressing rapidly, with additional patrols in the area to provide reassurance during the holiday period.
