Mother Arrested on Suspicion of Murder Following Death of Young Boy in South Ockendon

A young boy has tragically died, and his mother has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a serious incident at a property on Windstar Drive on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency Services Response

Police were called to the address shortly after 3 PM on December 15 after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman and a child. Emergency services, including paramedics, responded swiftly to the scene.

Despite the best efforts of medics, the young boy was pronounced dead. The woman, believed to be the child’s mother, was taken to hospital for treatment, where her condition has since improved. Following further information presented to investigators, she was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder.

Investigation Underway

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Blakesley, leading the investigation, described the incident as a “tragic” loss of life:

“First and foremost, this is a tragic incident in which a child has lost his life, and I would please ask the South Ockendon community – and further afield – to please refrain from speculating.

“Specialist officers and staff are continuing to build a picture of the events which led up to the call to emergency services yesterday. This will of course take time, and a thorough investigation is now underway.”

Police have confirmed they are not looking to identify anyone else in connection with this investigation.
