Murder Investigation Launched Following Woman’s Death in Newton Poppleford

Detectives have initiated a murder investigation after the death of a woman in Newton Poppleford, Devon.

Incident Details

Police were called to a property on Lark Rise at around 1:15 pm on Friday, 17 January, following a report of concern for the welfare of a woman.

Officers and paramedics attended the scene, where a 70-year-old woman was sadly pronounced deceased. Efforts are currently underway to locate her next of kin.

Arrest Made

A 67-year-old man from the Newton Poppleford area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held in police custody. Authorities have confirmed that the man and the woman were known to each other.

Investigation Underway

A cordon has been established to allow for a thorough examination of the scene. Detective Inspector Paula Trevett of Devon and Cornwall Police provided reassurance to the local community, stating:
“This is being treated as an isolated incident, and at this time, we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the death.

She added:
“Members of the public will see an increased police presence in the area, and we encourage anyone with concerns to approach officers from the local neighbourhood policing team.

Appeal for Information

Police are appealing for any witnesses, information, or dashcam footage that may assist the investigation.
