Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a shot was fired through the letterbox of a Barnet home.

Police were called at around 00:05hrs on Monday, 14 September to reports of a firearm discharge in Basing Way, Finchley.

Officers attended the scene where it was discovered that a shot had been fired through the letterbox of a property at the location.

The occupants – who were inside at the time – were uninjured.

Detectives from Specialist Crime North are investigating. DC Lee Janes said: “This was a terrifying experience for the residents and it is simply pure luck that no one was injured. Whoever carried out this reckless act is clearly very dangerous and not afraid to use a deadly weapon.

“Enquiries are ongoing to try and ascertain why the victims may have been targeted in this way and every effort is being made to identify who is responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Specialist Crime North on 020 7201 2713. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
