The Greater Manchester Police are appealing for more information after an elderly man was found with serious injuries following a violent robbery on Bridgewater Canal in Leigh.
The incident took place just before 4.30pm. on 8 June 2024 when officers responded to reports of the robbery. They found the victim, a man in his late 70s, with serious injuries and he was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred in broad daylight on a busy route frequented by cyclists, joggers, and dog walkers. Detectives are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
Detective Sergeant Victoria Smith highlighted that the suspect was wearing a balaclava with a skull design on the face. She urged anyone who saw anything matching this description on 8 June 2024 to contact the police immediately.
Anyone with information is urged to call 101 and quote incident number 2088 of 8/6/24. Reports can also be made anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The police are determined to bring the perpetrator to justice and ensure the safety of the community.
