Sandown man arrested over Ventnor sex attack

Police have confirmed that a man has been arrested on Isle of Wight on suspicion of rape. The arrests is following and alleged allegation made following an incident in broad daylight in Ventnor yesterday (Tuesday). As previously reported police threw up a cordon at St Catherine’s Church as part of a probe into a serious sexual attack against a woman. Police have confirmed that a 35-year-old man from Sandown has been arrested on suspicion of rape. The attack is understood to have taken place at around 5.30pm on Tuesday. A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “Officers are investigating following an incident which took place in the church yard on Church Street, Ventnor at around 5.30pm on Tuesday, 18 June. “A 35-year-old man from Sandown has been arrested on suspicion of rape. He is currently in police custody.”
