Selby: Investigation Launched into Suspicious Incident Involving Two Girls Approached by a Man in a Black Car – UKNIP

An investigation is underway in Selby after a concerning incident involving two girls who were approached by a man in a black car. The man stopped his vehicle to ask the girls for information about local fast-food restaurants, but the situation quickly took a disturbing turn.

As the girls interacted with the man, they noticed that his trousers and underwear were pulled down, and he was indecently touching himself. Acting swiftly, the girls ran to safety and promptly reported the incident to the North Yorkshire Police.

The incident occurred on Hawthorn Road between 7.40pm and 7.45pm on Friday, June 30, 2023. In response, extensive police inquiries have been initiated in the neighbourhood. These include conducting house-to-house investigations, reviewing CCTV footage, and utilising automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology to track down the suspect.

Police believe they have identified the car involved and are currently conducting a search. Once the vehicle is located and the suspect is apprehended, further updates will be provided to the public.

In order to support the ongoing investigation, residents in and around the Hawthorn Road area of Selby are encouraged to review their private CCTV footage, ring doorbell recordings, and dash-cam footage from the time of the incident on Friday evening. Any potential evidence captured in these recordings could be crucial in identifying the suspect and bringing them to justice.

The North Yorkshire Police urge anyone with relevant information or footage to come forward and assist with the investigation.
