A Surprising Favourite
Speaking on the BBC Sounds podcast Off The Telly with Joanna Page and Natalie Cassidy, Sir David revealed that his favourite moments from the show weren’t the comedic capers fans might expect but rather its dramatic and emotional scenes.
He highlighted two standout moments:
- Del introducing his baby to the world.
- Del standing alone at Rodney and Cassandra’s wedding reception.
“Those are my best moments too, because what was asked of me as an actor was to play that range of emotions that we all as human beings suffer from,” Sir David explained.
An Emotional Connection
The actor admitted that he often became emotionally invested in Del Boy’s character:
“Because Del was my character, I’d get emotionally involved. It was so well written. Trying to get all of that across, with all the dialogue you’re given, you can’t help but get involved.”
These dramatic scenes provided depth to Del Boy’s character, showcasing his vulnerability beneath the bravado.
A Legacy of Laughter and Heart
Only Fools and Horses became a cultural phenomenon, attracting millions of viewers and inspiring a stage musical based on the beloved characters. Its combination of comedy and heartfelt moments resonated with audiences and solidified its place in British television history.
