West Midlands Police have commended the swift action of officers, ambulance staff, and fans following a medical emergency that occurred during last night’s match between Aston Villa and Olympiacos at Villa Park.
Just before half-time, a fan in the Lower Holte End experienced a medical emergency. Thanks to the quick thinking of a member of the public, CPR was initiated on the individual. Responding to the situation, two officers, PC Amrit Duggal and PC Darren Faulkner, navigated through the crowd alongside medics to assist.
As the stand was cleared to create space for medical intervention, additional officers were deployed to support the stewarding operation. Their prompt action facilitated the necessary access for medical personnel to attend to the fan in need.
Insp Marc Butler expressed gratitude to Aston Villa fans for their cooperation in clearing the area swiftly, allowing emergency responders to render aid effectively. Furthermore, officers assisted in transporting the man’s family to the hospital, ensuring they could be by his side during this challenging time.
This was a great example of collaboration between the club, police, and ambulance staff,” stated Insp Butler. “We wish the fan all the best with his recovery.”
The incident highlights the importance of community support and rapid response in times of crisis, demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between law enforcement, medical professionals, and supporters in ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals involved in sporting events.
