Authorities in Tunbridge Wells are appealing for dashcam footage and witnesses following an alarming incident where a suspected burglar impersonated a police officer at an elderly lady’s residence.

The unsettling event unfolded at approximately 5 pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at a property situated on Eridge Road, near Broadwater Lane. The 90-year-old homeowner, upon returning from her front garden, heard the intruder upstairs.

Upon confrontation, the individual purportedly claimed to be a police officer before swiftly vacating the premises without taking anything. Investigators are now seeking assistance from the public to identify the suspect involved.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately five feet five inches tall, with an average build and short dark hair. Estimated to be in his 30s, the individual may have a missing front tooth at the top. At the time of the incident, he was observed wearing dark-coloured trousers and a white, short-sleeved, round-necked t-shirt, described as dirty.

Residents residing nearby, equipped with doorbell cameras or CCTV systems, are urged to scrutinize their footage for any pertinent information. Additionally, motorists who were in the vicinity are encouraged to review their dashcam recordings.
