Sussex Police have spoken out after a protest rocked Brighton city centre on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Officers were on the scene to keep the peace and ensure public safety as rival groups clashed in the busy hub.
Two Arrests Made, then Dropped
During the event, a 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence. However, he was later released after further investigation cleared him. Similarly, a 66-year-old man from London was arrested amid allegations of common assault but was also de-arrested once police looked deeper into the claims.
Loud Hailer Woman Under Police Scrutiny
Police also received reports about a woman leading chants through a loudspeaker during the protest. Officers noted the potentially harmful nature of some of the language reportedly used, which could affect local communities. The force is now assessing whether any criminal offences were committed under relevant laws.
Investigation Still Ongoing
Sussex Police confirmed the review is still underway. They pledged that if any criminal activity is confirmed, those responsible will face appropriate action. Until then, the public can expect the force to maintain vigilance in the city centre.
