15 fire engines tackle major flat fire in Hatcham Park Mews, New Cross

A major emergency response is under way in Hatcham Park Mews, New Cross, where a fire has broken out in a residential block this afternoon.

The London Fire Brigade confirmed that 15 fire engines and around 100 firefighters are at the scene tackling the blaze.

What we know so far

  • The first emergency call was received at 4.27pm. Control officers took at least eight separate calls reporting the fire.

  • Fire crews from New Cross, Peckham, Greenwich, Deptford, and surrounding stations were mobilised.

  • The fire has spread to exterior balconies on the first, second, and third floors of the block.

  • Residents have been urged to keep windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke.

  •  The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Emergency advice

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said:

“Crews remain at the scene of a fire in a block of flats in Hatcham Park Mews, New Cross. We are asking residents to avoid the area and to keep windows and doors closed while firefighters work to bring the blaze under control.”
